The Stoke-on-Trent CCG claims in it’s Mission statement that it will achieve it’s aims “through a process of meaningful discussions with the public, patients, clinicians, public health professionals, managers and stakeholders and working with the Health and Wellbeing Scrutiny Board and Overview and Scrutiny Committee of Stoke-on-Trent City Council.”
The Overview and Scrutiny Committee of Stoke-on-Trent City Council at a meeting on 9th of July called on health bosses Marcus Warnes and Stuart Poynor to keep Longton Cottage Hospital beds open until their consultation period was completed in October of this year.
However, these health bosses have a very unusual understanding of the words “working with” as they have completely ignored the call made by our elected councillors who sit on this Overview and Scrutiny Committee. Within a few weeks of that ‘working with’ meeting they have ordered no more admissions to be taken at Longton Cottage.
The reality is that that these well paid heath bosses have one main aim – to put what they see as ‘cutting costs’ before the real interests of patients and health services users. If that means ignoring the decision taken by city councillors or ignoring the fact that nearly 5,000 local people have already signed a petition against what they are planning then so be it. Their consultation is a sham! They know it and we know it! They will try to railroad their unwanted plans through and we will fight them to the end to save Longton Cottage Hospital.
